Exactly that Different times indeed When the first Chinese takeaway opened in cudworth in the 70s,the family that ran it were housed on a council estate We as children had never seen a real life foreign face and used to stand outside the fence trying to catch a glimpse of them They were a wonderful family and stayed in the village for years but what must they have thought of us at the time
I don't think there's any evidence at all of victim blaming, Fonzie, without combing back through the entire thread. I think pretty much en masse people have agreed that YCCC's stance on this has been unsavoury and unacceptable and that any player should have had the wit, compassion and morality not to use racist, derogatory terms to Rafiq no matter what the context. Heads should and have rolled but I, for one, would also like to hear what went on from a fully unbiased enquiry.
I don't doubt that anyone condones what has been said to Rafiq but there does appear to be some sense of wanting to offer up a negative perspective about him. I'm not sure why that is and it does come across as though it is victim blaming. If it isn't then why? Even if he's a total knob it doesn't matter and doesn't make it any more ok. Its a bit like blaming a woman for what she was wearing after being raped- "courting attention, asking for it, being flirty and suggestive". It is irrelevant and doesn't excuse it whatsoever.
I completely agree it should. However in this case I haven't heard a share of evidence to suggest that Rafiq has said or done anything racist. Closest is Ballance saying 'he said something too' which sounds more like a toddler defending themselves than an adult.
my point is racism is wrong plain and simple. But as you say you haven’t heard any details of anything Rafiq may have said but equally some people seem happy to pillory others at Yorkshire eg Moxon with no major proof. I just prefer to wait until all independent investigations are finished .
This isn't a Yorkshire only problem. You can see by the lack of Asians as board members, coaches etc that it's a Cricket wide problem and this is only the start of something that's going to go on and on.
To be fair, it's not just cricket - its a sport problem. How many British Asian footballers can you name?
