Here's one for you then. Next time you're in a group, introduce your relative as: "Hi mate, this is my paki relative". See what the reaction is.
Have you ever asked him about his experiences when it comes to racism? Genuine question, I think it could be informative and illuminating if you did.
I got the impression that this happened when he was in club cricket, and I believe his club played at Shaw Lane. Might be mistaken though.
People will make excuses for him because he's 'funny' and from the older generation where times were different.
He's a managing partner at a firm of solicitors in Leeds. The Chairman role will have been a paid non-exec role, and one with less influence than typical, it seems, given the influence of the Colin Graves Trust.
For some reason I can't find the 2020 accounts but the 2019 ones say that all non-execs received no pay. That may have changed in 2020 (can't see why and there was no mention of it in the 2021 AGM) but either way the Chair role increasingly seems low-powered in practice. Hutton does come across as an out of touch wet lettuce but the real power lies with Graves. The Graves Trust is owed the thick end of £20m and has a veto on all Board appointments. The Trust had apparently backed Arthur, Moxon and the HR Director so Hutton and the other non-execs had nowhere to go. Nowhere to go, other that is than to the shameful ECB who basically told Hutton to do one.
Maybe it was unpaid. I'd just assumed that it would be a remunerated non-exec role, as the unpaid ones tend to be within charities rather than commercial entities. Definitely not his full time role though.
Can everyone who wants to call someone a racist name because the person in question called some one else a racist name just admit it so I can ignore them? Also people who equate Azeem Rafiq’s situation to something that once happened to them in Bradford. I despair, I really do. if you don’t like people from other races, just say so. if you only want a British manager for Barnsley because foreigners “don’t understand English Football” just say so. If you think you’re not racist because you have a BAME mate who laughs when you call him a racial slur just say so.
Gary Ballance: Yorkshire batter denies he failed recreational drugs test - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/59310948
The thing is, despite the headline the quote from Ballance's representatives doesn't actually say that he never failed a drugs test. They say that he never missed a drugs test. This would still be potentially true even if he had tested positive for every drug under the sun.
The thing from Bresnan in here is another reason why the ECB's abrogation of responsibility from the outset is totally shameful. They were aware of the content of AR's allegations from 2019 but have let players and coaches up and down the country who were former-Yorkshire from the period in question continue unvetted and unfettered (three at Warwickshire alone). As the co-ordinating body for all counties they should have been making the other counties fully aware of the allegations and asking for independent risk assessments on each of their own situations - that is basics. Some of the stuff in other counties could then have come to light much earlier and two years of further suffering for the victims could have been prevented.
It probably is relevant to be fair, but it's just the latest in a long line of anti-Rafiq posts from him because he's "heard stories" despite only yesterday attesting to the fact that that didn't matter. Rafiq must have cast iron evidence that it's true - otherwise he wouldn't have brought it up. Everything else he's said has been corroborated by others, so Ballance is playing a very dangerous game by denying it. Maybe the drug tester was called Kevin, so he gave it a miss.
