Sibbick has been immense since he has come back. Just shows what belief in a player and giving him the confidence can do. This is the Sibbick I was expecting from day one.
Can’t argue with any of that, Of course, the club will also have to factor in the cost of a replacement. We will be a body light in midfield, and that gap will need to be filled - possibly incurring a transfer fee.
I wasn't criticizing those players and I'm all for letting players have a season to settle in before judging them, very few players hit the ground running. It doesn't look like those players will have much impact on this improving team so why not move them on and put the money to better use ? As for Sibbick I've always liked him.
Important move for Mowatt. He's key for us and supplies much needed quality. But realistically this contract will define his career - his earning potential is now at its greatest. Obvious he likes playing here, but equally don't see how he is going to turn down the likes of Derby or Forest if they divvy up a 3x wage packet. Bet his agent wants that. Hope things turn out different, but ........
No one has mentioned that it is not just about Mowatt, though. It is the knock-on effect to the rest of the currently happy squad. It could cause issues, as then Woodrow would want more, and then Morris, and then ...
I think its in the balance regarding mowatt, he wants to stay, but as somebody has said, his next contract could set him for life. There doesn't seem to be any rumours so hopefully we'll get him to sign
Mowatt just bought a house local to Barnsley so hopefully that’s a good sign especially if he has a missus kids etc he is adored at BFC smash the wage structure and keep him at oakwell build a team around him hopefully our new manager and this seasons final league position will show Alex that we are not rubbing rags at the bottom of the fish pond anymore and we mean business Middlesborough Cardiff qpr all after him surely we should match their 20k a week offering and at the minute we are a far better team than all of them all anyway VI will have a big say in this hopefully he can make mowatt stay a red Exciting times ahead for BFC
I'm all for him re-signing but if we're offering silly wages then I'd want abit more for my money, personally. I don't think wev found the ideal midfield partner for him yet, Palmer and Kane have bright futures but a goalscoring midfielder who can take a decent free kick would take this team onto the next level.
I honestly don't think Mowatt wants to leave. His absolute joy when Carlton put the ball in the Bristol net, was there for all to see. His situation probably mirrors that of Conor. Absolutely no disrespect intended, but with regards to the Premiership, I honestly think Alex would fail to hold down a regular place in a Premiership team at the moment. At Barnsley he's the skipper and he plays week in week out. His best bet would probably be to accept an improved contract ( if one is finally offered that him and his agent are happy with) and hope that he can continue to improve to the point that he is in the Barnsley team that hopefully eventually takes its place in the top division.
I'd love to keep Mowatt. But it's surely obvious that as soon as other players see the wage structure smashed for him they're going to be queuing up for the same treatment. Then we're down the same path as Wednesday. There's no way we should go that route. If someone like Forest offer to treble his wages do we match it? Then treble everybody else's? Or do we say no to players like Styles, Helik, Brittain, Woodrow etc? Regardless of whether those players are on longer contracts we all know they can engineer a move if they really want to. The system as is is starting to pay off. I'd prefer to leave it that way.
We shouldn’t break the wage structure, but we’ll struggle to keep this team together without bumping it up a level. Not sure we can afford to do that though, but we’ll need to if we want to keep hold of Ismael for any length of time
As much as I love Mowatt and want him to stay, i'm pretty glad the owners don't have this attitude. Look at the mess some clubs in the division are in with that kind of thinking. Staying financially stable with a wage structure over spending beyond our means every time for me.
I mean numbers wise. Now that we have Jordan Williams back,it will be interesting to see if Styles gets a chance in CM.
He's already set up for life. Gone are the days when an ex pro had to be a pub landlord to make ends meet. Even at £5,000 a week, he's on over a quarter of a million quid a year at 26 or whatever age he is but loyalty or game time won't come into the equation. His agent will probably get him a club where he earns 3x what he's on at Oakwell and at the same time earn a nice bonus for himself. He's played for a few clubs in his career so another move won't bother him. I fully expect him to be on his way in the summer ( Unless we unexpectedly get promoted) and good luck to him. I don't think we should break the bank to keep him. Isn't that exactly what people were chastising Wigan for doing?
I haven't seen anything yet from Kane that suggests that he can become a suitable replacement for Mowatt.
