    I agree with Windy

Teleport will offer a choice of around 300 movies..

Sky think they are too safe.

Given the extra trade a pub can attract at times when they might otherwise not get much trade it makes sense

    RE: one very ikkle problem.

Been told that Telewests PVR has been put back - again. Aren't they also in some kind of financial difficulty?

I wouldn't rish subscribing to Telewest.

Telewest has delivered a mediocre set of third quarter results, just one month after announcing a long-awaited merger with NTL.

In the period, which covers the three months ending September 30, the firm managed 11,000 net customer additions, down by 4,000 on the previous quarter and down by 6,000 on the equivalent quarter in 2004. Gross additions were up by 10,000 to 89,000.

Monthly ARPU stood at £45.17, up from £44.86 on the previous quarter.

What? You mean it just guesses what you want to record?

You are certainly way off here Windy. If you haven't got Sky+ then you are just eating sour grapes. Sky + is easily the best piece of technical kit ever produced.

    Aye alright.

It's a PVR. The markets full of them. Difference is you don't have to pay a monthly subscription to use the others.

    ee-aw!

You don't have to pay a monthly sub for Sky+ either.

    Really? Is that right?

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds26156.html

"TV Drive will cost an extra £10 to £15 per month, depending on the services taken."

The Sky+ PVR facilty costs from £0 to £10 depending on the package you have.

    Good answer!

Nothing wrong with Sky until you want to cancel. Sky have been known to simply hang up when you say you want to cancel.

I have not had any problems at all with Telewest however. And the Teleport sounds a great idea.

That's the Telewest one silly boy. It still works out way cheaper than Sky+ and you get much more but ther eare plenty you can just buy. I know Sky reckon you own the box after a year but you still have to subscribe to the service for ever.

(Don't tell me you think Sky+ comes "free" in that "special" package of theirs, I know you're not that dumb.)

I wish you lot would take 10 mins out to compare the eventual packages properly instead of just blindly defending Sky.

It sounds like the same thing as NTL started offering a few months ago. They offer repeats of certain BBC progs when you like free of charge. Nowt too exciting, mostly Eastenders, Casualty etc. There's also lots more films for around £2.50 or £3 a pop. You basically hire them for a day.

But you are comparing something that has been promised for 2 years and still not due out til next Summer with something that is available now.
I've said that the Telewest one does look good but my experience of their products is a negative one, they have poor build quality and poor software - if they can get that sorted and actually deliver what they are promising then they'll have a good product and a welcome rival to Sky that may well make Sky not take their existing subscriber base so much for granted.
But the Telewest PVR will cost a minimum of £10 per month, the Sky one costs a minimum of £0. If you don't subscribe to either movies or sport it's a tenner, if you do then it's free - seeing as I already subscribed to sports and movies before I got Sky+ I am therefore paying no more than I was before for the PVR functionality so in essence it's free.

If you want that functionality now though its Sky who have led the way in multi-channel pay TV in this country for 15 years. Competition is needed so hopefully Telewest/NTL can do that but they have a long way to go to catch up. They missed the chance years ago - in the US cable is number 1 with satellite a niche market, but Sky got in first here.

It's all down to what suits your requirements, some people are happy with 5 channels, some find freeview suits their needs etc....if Telewest satisfy your criteria then fine - each to their own.

I think cable companies should be doing deals with house builders so that new builds are already wired up and just need to be connected.

    I'll say it again.

If you take some time to compare the ACTUAL costs, like for like you'll see you're paying way too much.

We seem to be stuck on the PVR here. I wouldn't rent one anyway, I'd just buy it but I'll wait and see how far Telewest go with this service of theirs first.

Telewest are offereing everything Sky do and more for less.

By the way, the movies. How many do you watch a week? I can't be doing with the limited selection on Sky or cable and I was renting them, it was costing about£40 a month so I've joined Screenselect. Scrillions of titles for £15, three out at a time.
