Surely a fair comparison of the two churches (as apart from the religions) is one that includes the historical element. What was being done in the name of Christianity when it was the same age as organised Islam is now?

It's an interesting thought (for about five seconds.)

But, apart from the fact that it bears no relevance to this disagreement (which, again, is solely about the present state of affairs) it's also intrinsically flawed. It's completely reliant on the premise that followers of a religion go through set stages at set times regardless of what's going on in the world around them. In other words it's complete b0llocks.

I think he's talking about the first few hundred years of

Christianity mate, before the Church of Rome took over.

Of course there aren't set stages and it isn't comparing at the same point in time ....but islamists are virtually mediaeval in their outlook and the Christian world was chopping hands off, carrying out religious wars etc.. It is worth more than five seconds thought.

Islam behaving like Christianity did in mediaeval times. It's a thought worth keeping.

By that logic I could set myself up as head of a religion, in direct opposition to Islam, ride around killing muslims (personally beheading 600 of them) and raping nine-year old girlsand that would be only to be expected?

    pretty much...

    ..no, not really.

but i don't believe in fairies, thor, the flying spagetti monster or the chocolate teapot either.

it's quite simple. big invisible beardy man in the sky for which there is no evidence whatsoever or no big invisible beardy man in the sky. pointing at a cow and shouting horse doesn't make it so. just because it's been written down (and heavily edited and suppressed) doesn't make it true. if i point at a cow and shout cow that doesn't make it a cow, it already is one. because i say it's not a horse, or a goat or an eel for that matter, am i suffering from the same delusions that those who call it so have? it's not some dogmatic belief, it's a statement based on evidence and experience.

    RE: NO NO NO NO!!

Depends what sort of Islam is it.

Islam as practiced by some of its nasty adherents, yes. Islam as practiced by people who are peaceful loving people, no.

Judge people first on how they are as people and not by some meaningless label that is used to wrap billions of people up in the same thought bubble.

    Get with it

You'd have to wait between 12 and 1400 years first.

Oh, and watch out there's a great big elephant running towards you. It's there, right in front of you. No, I'm trying to help. Move quick. It's nearly on you. Too late........ He was probably a nice guy that *Windy.

It won't make it any less true (providing as with any story it is accurately reported), but the motivation of the BNP is to selectively highlight certain unsavoury stories and use them as a brush to tar billions of people with.

RE: well considering that religious belief is....

A definition of 'religious belief' would be useful before such a comment.
