I cannot see how Cardiff can avoid paying the agreed fee over the agreed payment scale. But I do think though that Nantes are being insensitive towards families and friends of the two missing guys, and the fans of both clubs , by making a song and dance about the fee....Really Nantes is it that important at this moment in time, sorry Nantes you are showing a very inhumane side here.. Its not official that thee two men are dead, but its obvious they are. I was at the Cardiff game on Saturday with my Welsh relatives, Warnock ate the end was well moved. The whole occasion was a very emotional thing to attend. This terrible incident has put it all into perspective just how much Football is unimportant.
I read somewhere Cardiff have insurance covering things like this up to a tune of £16m, but the fee was £15m alone and there were questions as to whether Sala's family would receive the value of his contract. I'll see if I can find the link when I get in
I am just saying that they could have waited till the final outcome happened, the recovery of the bodies, the family's grievance time. I think its very insensitive... and I know this event is not related but today is also the anniversary of the Munich air disaster... I just think that Nantes have not really thought this through.
Yep, that's why it was on the main BBC news tonight. No interest at all. It's just the BBC with nowt else to do. Plus you're assuming Sky broke this story. It'll be in all the papers tomorrow. Rightly so. There's a tacky element to it. Which elevates the interest somewhat. Are you not concerned with how self interested and greedy these clubs owners are, below the waterline?
My understanding is that whilst they have no issue with the terms of the contract, fee nor wages due, Cardiff have deferred the initial payment for several reasons surrounding the circumstances of the accident - with Nantes potentially involved in the flight charter which ultimately led to the death of at least one, and most likely two, people on the aircraft. Agent Willie Mackay was engaged by the club to sell the player on their behalf. The aircraft was owned by an East Anglian?company I believe, with speculation that Mackay owns the company. Nantes are believed to have paid for the flight via Mackay and are therefore implicated, with so many questions surrounding the suitability of the aircraft and the pilot. Cardiff had organised a commercial flight from Paris to London, with a club official meeting the player in London. This was declined and alternative transport was arranged by others. Whatever the reasons, and whichever side is right btw, I’d say that it’s understandable to put a hold on the payment until the AAIB complete a thorough investigation into the circumstances. I’d have hoped and thought that both parties would be focussing on the recovery of the aircraft following this tragic event, with due respect to the families of both the pilot and passenger, rather than squabbling in public. Some things are more important than money. But, as is often the case, because it’s Cardiff involved they’re clearly in the wrong with many people.
I take issue with your perception of some kind of Cardiff persecution complex. However, you do a good job in trying to explain the intricacies around why the loot should or should not be paid. If the clubs have started arguing about it, the shame (if any) needs to be directed towards them, and how they let it all leak out, rather than trying to shoot the messenger - like some are trying to do on here. (Then they moan about undisclosed BFC transfer fees.)
It's tragic from top to bottom . My thoughts are with his family, Cardiff City and Neil Warnock who looks a broken man .
Update. Jim White just now on Talksport spoke to Cardiff this morn. They'll not be paying a penny while the investigation is ongoing. The body from the plane is now with the coroner. So this could go on and on. If the body is the pilot then that surely means the investigation will continue if its not the player?!?!
I don't. They're fvcking scumbags: the Welsh Millwall. Whether it's legally/morally correct that they should pay the transfer fee, I hope they end up having to.
