Are you winding folk up or what? It often will be addressed to you ffs. I've had about 12 in the last fortnight from Apple about someone using my account to make payments and to click on the link if it wasn't me. It had my full name on there as they've acquired it by the same dodgy means as they got my email address. I know that no money has been paid out as I've checked my online banking, but like Jay says, some people will be convinced by the use of personal details and the email presentation and will click on the link.
Yup, if there's a problem with your personal bank account the BBC will be straight on it. They employ someone just to make sure your finances are secure. Clearly. That's the point, it will be, as I said the new phishing scams are quite sophisticated. But you'll be alright, because the news will alert you to any problems.
Never said anything about banks telling you about scams I said if they are down or having problems they inform you via TV and radio news bulletins which they do,
But it could and does affect others, hence the thread. Not all threads posted on here are meant for your eyes only.
Re: "Hello, my name is Jack, I am calling from Microsoft security" My grandparents got done by summat similar a while ago. Basically they told my grandad to go on his laptop to a certain URL as he had a virus, he then went on the website and they took over his laptop and he couldn't get out of it until he paid them. Not sure how he got out of it in the end but a bit of a nasty experience for them both.
