The best pressing side I've seen this season is Club Brugge. Their head coach is Nicky Hayen whose previous role was with the academy side - Club NXT - but prior to that he coached Haverfordwest County in the Cymru Premier. The current head coach of Club NXT is Robin Veldman who was previously at Queens Park in the Scottish Championship winning only 5 games from 21 (and he won the first 3). He also coached at youth level with Ajax (under Ten Haag) and Anderlecht (under Kompany). I'm not saying he's the right fit for us as he might be a little too "Dutch School" - see link - but I do believe there are young hungry coaches out there who will be able to deliver a pressing style and more importantly coach and develop our young players from the Academy to play this style. link
Someone else suggested this was my stance last night too, yet I’ve never posted anything of the sort. I wasn’t his biggest fan by the end, but I didn’t call for his head. As for this thread, the OP listed a few names and their results record. In an effort to add context, I shared the last two coaches records. For absolute clarity (not that it matters), I had full faith in Clarke getting a tune out of a group that I suggested from day one was a playoffs at best squad. I also said that it could finish somewhere between 6th and 12th. So if we were hitting the bottom end of that, I’d see that as poor on the part of the coach. We are very close to that bottom end aren’t we? So my faith in Darrell certainly diminished over the last few months and he gave the club a decision to make. I don’t disagree with their decision to move him on. But it’s not something I was calling for. I leave my assessments in matchday threads a couple of hours after each game. And after 36 games I felt he was getting the least that I’d expect from the squad at his disposal. And, I wasn’t a fan of his negative body language and propensity to say “I’m accountable, no excuses” seconds before or after he had in fact made excuses. I think there are many issues at play, which again, is something I’ve posted all season. But without transparency or any sort of engagement from the club, we are left bumping into walls in a darkened room. And that’s a shame, because as seen on many occasions previously, when you get it right at Oakwell, it’s a heck of a club and the fanbase will back it implicitly. Hope this made sense.
It'll be either CH or somebody cheap we've never heard of and that the DoF says we've been targeting for ages. Who ever it is unless there are major changes in those above and a stop to the micro management of footballing matters by those without a clue the new coach will simply be keeping the seat warm for maybe a season until they disappear after being scapegoated by those running the show
Sadly those owning and those running the club on the owners behalf seem to get very little right. They seem masters of the shooting yourself in both feet way of running a football club both on and off the field.
Won't be any of those named as if we/ they were interested we could make the move now as they're all available. Frightening thought is which unheard of Lithuanian U21 girls netball coach will be the guy who we really wanted when we appointed Clarke.. It's not hard, get a proper Manager in cos keep paying compo to Collins, Clarke etc is costing more than what a reight gaffer would have cost in the 1st place.
But we have virtually no other 'realistic' better options do we. And its not about who we'd like, its about who this lot are going to want.
