RE: Played as keeper for 20 odd years Keeper too. Was asked to go on trials for Huddersfield till I told him I was 27 at the time!!
played left wing at school and first few seasons at sunday league, then slowly as the weight went up and the pace went down went to left back and played the last 2 seasons at centre half until hanging up the boots at the end of last season! definitely want to play again next season though!
Nice thread! I'm one of the right fullback brigade. Played there as a junior for a local side, then when that side folded, I went to play for New Lodge JFC, where the manager, in his great wisdim, decided to play me on the left side of attack simply because of my pace. Scored on my debut due to the pace, but proceeded to be crap ever after by being played in an uncomfortable position.
Thanks Mr Westwood!

I've never played for a team or owt but when I play with mates at Shaw Lane I always like left-back or left wing even though I'm right footed.
Cultured centre back started at the back moved up to centre forward (with some success) and went back as the legs started to go a bit as anticipation and positional sense made prolonged the 'career' a bit longer
Just as I suspected... it appears there's more right backs than owt else. I used to think it was just me being unlucky with the teams I played with. I allus got played out of position. I turned up for the university team and they looked at my size and put me in the centre of defence. First game, the opposition kick off, knock it to the centre forward, he twists one way then the other, I get my legs in a knot and he slots it into the bottom corner. 15 seconds gone. A few years ago, my work team enter a competition. We get to the final. I'm left fullback. I'm playing okay, their winger is slow and 5 minutes to half time, it's 0-0. Then they knock it down the channel past me. I get to the ball first control it then try to shift onto my favoured foot, I stumble over and their winger has a free run on goal and scores. I get subbed at half time. I'm not bitter. They collapsed in the second half 6-0. Sub me will they. Not bitter.
CM. But have played everywhere. Played at a decent level up to being about 30. Got boxes of trophies and medals. Then just Sunday league. Trouble with playing on a Saturday is that you miss watching BFC. Last season I hung my boots up after a fairly successful season as a GK. Bought some new boots for this season to try and motivate myself to play again, but gave them to my nephew after not bothering. Think my days are numbered. I ache too much afterwards. Its Wednesday before I shake it off.
Big daft centre forward Slow as fook but good at holding up the ball and good in the air. Andy Rammell type. Play Ice Hockey now and I play Defence. Still slow on skates but good at knocking people over (casualty) Thinking of making a football comeback next season. /poo Dean
