Nobody seems to mention the fa cup game against Enfield at white hart lane that would be my no 1 deffo I,m not sure but it has some kind of record if memory serves me right.
Well it's not on mine cos I didn't go, but I do remember it. Crowd of 30,000 ish I seem to remember, with around 8,000 Barnsley fans I think. "Enfield are Camel Fodder"
1) Leeds United 1-2 Barnsley. 1989/90 season, a Tuesday night, their only home defeat of the season, and we completed an unlikely double after Mel Machin transformed us from relegation certainties to survivors. We fielded seven defenders in our team, and both subs, Archdeacon and O'Connell scored, winning from 1-0 down. 2) Middlesbrough 0-1 Barnsley. 1989/90 again, a Tuesday night again, the penultimate game of the season and confirming our survival. Notable for John Dennis celebrating in front of the away end. 3) Huddersfield 1-3 Barnsley. 2006 season play off semi final. Just because I thought we had no chance, especially at half time when we'd been absolutely sh.it and created nothing. Thank the Lord for that soft penalty given to Paul Hayes. 4) Brentford 3-1 Barnsley, 1993. My 92nd football league ground meaning at the time I'd completed the full set. Also notable for being Machin's final game in charge I think. 5) Sheff United 0-1 Barnsley, 1996/97 season. A John Hendrie goal sent us top for Christmas, and also was really the game and result that made everyone believe that promotion to the Premier League that season was a realistic possibility.
Plymouth 1-2 Barnsley season norwich went down man u away in fa cup prem season liverpool away prem season sheff u 2 - 2 barnsley oldham away (promotion season back into championship , barnsley winning and oldham scored 2 late goals to nick it, one of best atmospheres away, barnsley fans constantely signing)
Five? Nah! I'm having fifteen! 1) Workington, April 1976 7-1; 2) Sheffield Wednesday, November 1979 2-0; 3) Fulham, January 1981 3-2; 4) Chelsea, October 1981 2-1; 5) Rotherham United, November 1981 4-2; 6) Liverpool, January 1982 0-0; 7) Sheffield Wednesday, April 1983 1-0; 8) Leeds United, April 1990 2-1; 9) Manchester City, September 1996 2-1; 10)Sheffield United, December 1996 1-0; 11)Liverpool, November 1997 1-0; 12)Tottenham Hotspur, January 1998 1-1; 13)Manchester United, February 1998 1-1; 14)Birmingham City, May 2000 4-0; 15)Liverpool, February 2008 2-1.
These for me 1. Rotherham 2-4 Barnsley - Division 2 1981/2 2. Birmingham 0-4 Barnsley - Division 1 playoffs 2000. 3. Peterborough 3-4 Barnsley - Championship 2011/2 4. Liverpool 0-0 Barnsley - League Cup 1981/2 5. Walsall 1-2 Barnsley - League 1 2005/6 Other memorable away matches York 0-1 Barnsley - Division 4 1978/9 Chelsea 1-2 Barnsley - Division 2 1981/2 Crystal Palace 1-2 Barnsley - Division 2 1981/2 Luton 1-1 Barnsley - Division 2 1981/2 Leicester 1-2 Barnsley - Championship 2011/2 Aston Villa 0-1 Barnsley - Premier League 1997/8 Leeds 1-2 Barnsley - Division 2 1983/4 Enfield 0-3 Barnsley (at White Hart Lane) FA Cup 1980/1 Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Barnsley - Division 2 1982/3 You might guess that 1981/2 was a fantastic season.
Huddersfield in play-off, Southend to stay up, Millennium Stadium, Posh last season, Swindon in 1991/92.
Re: Looks like it. mate My first game was against Port Vale (I think) when I was about 10 (1966 ish). I went with my dad for a couple of years then lost interest but returned to the fold when Clarkie arrived in 1978. That Rotherham match is still right up there with the best matches I've ever seen. I've got the ITV highlights on DVD if you want a copy.
Birmingham 4-0 play offs 2000 Huddersfield 3-1 play offs 2006 Leeds 2-1 1990 Stoke 3-3 1989 Liverpool 1-0 1998
I'd almost forgotten that game at Stoke, when we were 3-1 up (Currie was unstoppable) and they were awarded a goal which never crossed the line. Me and my dad were in line and I never saw any of the ball behind the line.
My first game Was the opening match of the 1968/69 season, a 3-2 defeat to Barrow on 10th August. I was hooked. The following season, my Late Father bought me my first season ticket and I've had one ever since. Many thanks for your kind offer, mate. As it happens, I already have it. But your generous offer is very much appreciated, thank you.
Re: These for me Number 5, that game at Walsall. A tin shed full of Reds singing "Let's all have a disco". Brilliant.
I almost agree However, I would also pick Hull City when (I think) we won 4-3 with a last minute goal from (I think) Andy Duggan. Also Swansea away in the league cup, lost 3-2 but won on aggregate. Superbly placed chip from Neil Cooper with his knee to put us through to the famous Brighton game at Oakwell where Trevor Aylott scored from 180 yards with an exquisite lob.
Re: I almost agree Actually he was in the Outpost car park, it was rather wind assisted. Still one of the best Barnsley goals I've ever seen at Oakwell.
Only bettered By Barnard's against Huddersfield, in my opinion. It was also one of the best games of football I've seen from a Barnsley team.
