Re: Again, people not knowing what the **** they are talking about Teachers are paid an annual salary for the work they do. It's paid monthly, like other salaries in other professions. Teachers have mortgages and bills, and so to be just paid whilst they are in school wouldn't help anyone. The fact that teachers recieve a wage in August despite being "on holiday" is irrelevant. My mum's a teacher. She spent 3 weeks of her six week holiday in school preparing her classroom, displays, general organisation of the classroom and planning, two weeks at home preparing for the new academic year and then a week on holiday. She spent around 75% of her Christmas holiday doing the same. The only day she did no school work was Christmas Day. She does about 60-70 hours a week on average. I'm doing a teaching degree and I find myself doing about 30 hours school work a week (including teaching time), on top of studying for my degree and working to pay for it. But what do I know?
I have teachers in my family so don't start with that **** Teachers have it good, you must think that else you wouldn't be training to be one. Problem with teachers is that they do more moaning than any other profession i know, weekends off, plenty of time off to go on holiday, plenty of jobs, great wages, good hours, no shift work and the ability to not take any criticism. I worked for the LEA for quite a few years training teachers and working with teachers so trust me i know more about the subject than most.
all this talk about teachers doing upto 70 hours a week on average absolute crap. so she works 10 hours a day every day does she?
Agree, they ought to be on at least a grand a week IMO, and the Police/ Nurses/ and for sure every serviceman who is on duty abroad! Iraq etc', We want the best in this country of ours of which we all deserve, so to get the best we've got to pay the top dollar. Its scandalous what they as a group get paid....
Great wages? Really? In comparison to working in Burger King yes. Amd maybe Zadok wants to be a teacher as he fancies teaching? If you're suggesting people train to be teachers to have six weeks 'off' during the summer you're having a laugh.
Our lass Sets off to work every morning at 7:30. It's a 10 minute drive to her school. She's not home yet, which is not unusual. When she does get home she'll be marking until at least half eight. So, I'd say she does over 12 hours on most school days. Hope that helps.
Here we go, Journos talking crap £20000 - £34000 are good wages, and 12 weeks off per year are great holidays I worked for the LEA so i know more about the subject than a wannabe Journo
Teachers obviously need retraining then if they're spending what 5 hours a day in lessons and 7 hours preparing for those lessons. And if it's a secondary school teacher then they will teach the same thing to more than one class generally (if the school has run correctly)
Lol Your posts suggest not my friend. Seeing as you know the topic so well, you'll know how long it takes to get up to £34,000 a year won't you, regardless of how good you are. PS, the 'Journo' insult is very boring, very dull and went out with adidas tracksuits.
RE: Lol Yes i do as that's what my mother was on before she retired and started doing the odd day here and there cos it's easy money. And if you want to lecture me about Journalism don't bother as i work with lots of proper ones.
37 kids in our lass' class Imagine that in the morning you've set some maths problems and in the afternoon you've set a literacy assignment. (Of course, they'll do much more than this, but lets stick with 2 subjects just to make it easier). How long would it take you to mark 37 sets of maths problems and then 37 stories? I think you ought to read this: http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=92733&mid=597427#M597427
RE: Lol You make me laugh. I wouldn't waste my energy lecturing you on anything as it's not well paid enough
RE: Lol The feeling's mutual. At least rather than professing I know what I'm talking about and talking *****, I don't claim to know everything yet talk sense.
RE: Lol Of course you do Journo, as you've worked for the Local Education Authority too, sorry no you haven't you just know a teacher and your info is second hand. No wonder you never made it in Journalism.
RE: Lol I haven't tried to 'make it' in journalism. Talking about ANOTHER thing you know nothing about. Keep it up.
RE: Lol Another thing i know nothing about, i know about the teaching profession than you and i know more about Journalism than you and i'm neither. Keep prancing about in the press box old boy, i've heard all about it from some real journalists i know.
