Or If a scientist made the perfect footballer he would make Redfearn, if God made the perfect footballer he (or she) would make Glavin.
Zidane. Best player of my lifetime. Maybe I'm biased because the 98 World Cup is the first one I remember but there's no player I'd rather watch & he wasn't just a show pony. He could do the gritty stuff too, strong in the tackle & you only need to watch the 98 final to see how brilliant he was in the air. I can't think of many footballers as 2 footed as him either. The left footed volley he scored at Hampden Park against Leverkusen in the 2001 champions league final was incredible. Most players could only dream of doing that on their strong foot never mind the weak one. You've only got to look at France during Zidane's era. They'd not won anything since the Euro's in the 70's & they won the World Cup with Zidane been the star man. They then won the Euro's in 2000 with Zidane the star man. He missed the first two games of the World Cup in 2002 & they got knocked out before he recovered. He then made the Euro 2004 team of the tournament & then came out of retirement at 34 to drag the under performing team to the World Cup final. His performance against Brazil in that tournament takes some beating. A true great. That's why I'd rank him above Messi & Ronaldo, his international form. Messi & Ronaldo are unbelievable at breaking scoring records in La Liga but they're playing in an era where Real & Barca are miles ahead of every team in Spain & miles ahead of every team in Europe except Bayern. To surpass Zidane I believe they need to perform better at an international level. I can't comment on Pele, Maradona etc because they were before my time
