. People have to take responsibility, but who? Forget the lad at Bradford, his signing is just incidental. One to develope. Someone decided we had enough in the tank, but who? Stendel? The owners? I can't see Stendel turning down fresh faces if offered, but neither can I see the owners turning down a request for said new faces given the prize at stake. They must take advice from longer serving staff at the club? Would be very interested to know the details.
Hit nail on the head there. People were pleased with the January on here. People shot us doubters down but my gut feeling predicted this. It is over in my opinion. We depended on Moore seeing us through. 2 more decent signings would of got us there.
Stendel said in January that his priority was to keep the squad together and, other than Potts, he did so. it could have been very different had a number left. it is hardly his fault that we have had two key long-term injuries and the loss of form of a couple of players as well. The balance says it has been a good season whatever happens, but promotion has to be the defining outcome.
Stendel said we had enough quality. Clearly that’s not been the case. But he will have learnt from his first season in the English leagues.
Thing is we could gave bought in "quality" but they ve still.got to perform for us. No one has a crystal ball. Let's see what happens.
We could sign somebody for £5 mill, and he might be absolute stinky pants lol. So yes there are no guarantees when it comes to signing players. But it would have been nice to see our board back the manager with some back-up when we clearly needed it. Back-up might not be needed during a season if a team are lucky, but we lost Moore and we've gone downhill since. Case closed!!.
Hope you're not counting me amongst "us doubters" lol In the context that we only lost Potts, it was a good January. We will only know in May if it was a success or not.
Hmmm My post on Feb 1st http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/pr...ndow-in-my-opinion.276163/page-4#post-2241923
I wasn't. I was pretty pi55ed off about losing Potts and although I wasn't Moncurs' biggest fan I wasn't very happy that we sold to a promotion rival. There are loads of posts on here about it, not just from me but from several posters who felt the same way.
Decent post thomas, the season will be judged by promotion. You are always going to get the loss of form and injury to key players, that's why you need to strengthen mid season. It was hardly unforseeable that one of our two strikers would get injured so cover should have been an obvious requirement. In that run of nil nils, would Potts and moncur have got or caused a goal and turned one point into three?? IMHO not much doubt there
Oh and I do think Stendel was towing the party line. When was the last time a manager stood up and said: "I need more players but the board won't sign them" and kept his job??
Thought you captured it spot on.....as I remember all my mates (and me) were made up just to keep big keef and pinnock.
Think the transfer window was very important,, despite losing Collins, Hylton, Cornick and McCormack or periods since Jan we signed very able replacements - Cummings, Baptiste, Moncur and Connolly who maybe make his debut next week. They got us out of jail today
And don't play Moncur cos he's not fit enough WE COULD HAVE TOLD YA THAT THAT'S WHY WE SOLD HIM TO YA!
You have to carry extra squad members, now there's no emergency loans. I'm not sure our club - or some people on here - have got their heads around that one.
No they haven't someone was banging on at the game behind me that would should have got someone in on loan when Moore got injured. Took some time to get it through to him that we couldn't.
