    I genuinely believe Chaplin has goals in him, with a fair run and the right service. Val obviously doesn’t rate him though, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move on

    Low risk, high upside type of signing, given that he's an out of contract player.

    If it works out, then he could be a real asset. Arguably, his loan spell here was more successful than Toney's was, so that's the yardstick I'm basing this on. He might not get close to where Toney has progressed, but it's not out of the question.

    If it doesn't work out, then we've invested only wages in him, without the transfer fee on top. In terms of finding a Championship level striker that's the cheapest way of doing so, other than bringing someone through the Academy structure.

    Be sad to see him go. He hasn't really had a run of games. When he has played the team have looked out of sorts and Woodrow has been injured. I'd have liked to have seen him play alongside Morris and Woodrow but back the club to get it right with recruitment. With Cole signing and possibly the lad from Brighton and Adeboyejo moving ahead of him his days must be numbered.

    Would echo much of what's been said here.
    Trust the recruitment team. Good to hear Vals positive comments. The lad seems up for a return. Probably v hungry to prove himself at a higher level.
    This could work out well for both parties.

    I can't say I've seen anything of Cole and even if I had, it's been a long while since he was with us so should be a very different proposition.

    Best of luck to him and hope he does well.

    As an aside, we must surely be confident of offloading a couple of forwards, either being happy to fully write off their transfer fees and remaining wages (though that would be uber expensive for some players), or we've found someone who will soften the blow a little. With the market as it is, I don't see any of our fringe players getting back their transfer fees.

    I can see us taking a hit on Adeboyejo, Schmidt and Miller and selling Chaplin and Thomas.

    I'd be surprised if we let Victor go, given we've only just given him a year extension. I wouldn't be surprised to see Miller being paid up to let him find another club and then you're looking at circa £3m we paid in transfer fees for Thomas, Chaplin and Schmidt and then we've Simoes too. All have 2 years on their deals.

    We've got to trim this squad, it's huge. Maybe not in depth but very much so in numbers.
