Wait for the outrage when the next pitch inspection pictures are released and the sprinklers are on.

I get the feeling Stevenage don't want this game on, they've 3 players out with Covid read between the lines

I'm sure they used to play with the pitch covered in snow and visibility almost zero. Now they're considering calling games off because the ground might be a bit hard. Probably not but might be. It's football. Can't the players wear leggings?

Just for clarity, are you saying the match should be postponed? They've done a pitch inspection at 11 and the pitch has been deemed unplayable in the current state. However, they believe there's a chance it will thaw in time for a 3pm kick off. Is it your opinion that chance shouldn't be taken and it should be called off now?

I think they're thinking more about the potential for injuries rather than "the players might get a bit cold".

It's showing the temperature is going to rise by 1 degree between now and then, but the 'real feel' will still be below freezing (albeit at -1 instead of -4), so I'd be surprised if the pitch thaws out enough in that time.

Doesn't that amount to the same thing though? Cold muscles and injuries? Or are you thinking about running on hard ground? Futsal can be played on concrete. I would have thought something could be done to avoid these situations. More supportive football boots for one.

The 'real feel' has nothing to do with ice thawing. That's all about how it feels to be a warm blooded mammal, it doesn't change the freezing temperature of water. Indeed, 'real feel' is often associated with there being a breeze, it blows through your protective clothes and makes you feel colder, but it also circulates the air meaning freezing cold air doesn't sit above the ground, it 's blown away and actually speeds up thawing.

If it’s not playable at 11 it won’t be at 1pm. Grossly unfair on the reds fans (not to mention players and staff).

There needs to be harsh penalties on clubs that let this happen. If this is off now it should be declared a 3-0 reds win. Loads of games were rightly called off yesterday.

Is there a realistic chance the state of the pitch will significantly improve in the hour and a half they finished fannying around with the 11am one, and the 1pm one?

I dunno. Water does thaw and it thaws over time and it thaws when the temperature is above freezing. All those conditions are in place.

If they wasn't it would have already been called off knowing a lot of fans would already be there for 1.

Snow can actually insulate the ground and prevent it freezing.

I'm not sure how you'd make more supportive footwear to be honest to work better in icy conditions, without them being more dangerous for opposition players. The pitch will likely thaw out as a game goes on too, potentially meaning another type of footwear is more suitable But the risk of injury is heightened by the harder surface, particularly if the pitch has suffered a bit of churn. I'll be honest, I don't know much about futsal, but presumably the rules around tackling are different. I'm currently recovering from an injury caused by an opposition player, who was wearing the right footwear for the pitch, slipping on an icy surface and catching me studs first on the ankle.

Not as badly as the post on another thread where I've said it will 100% be on.

    Though it's not 1pm yet :D
